ASA RELEASES NATIONAL JUNIOR AND YOUTH TEAMS

Athletics South Africa has announced the final lists for the national teams for Juniors and Youth for

upcoming international events.

A 14-member final national team made of nine men and five women, has been confirmed for the CAA

African Junior Championships in Tlemcen, Algeria from 29 June to 2 July.

They will be led by the likes of Olympic sprinter Clarence Munyai, who set a national Junior 200m record of

20.10 seconds in Tshwane earlier this season, and SA Junior 100m Hurdles record holder Taylon Bieldt, who

clocked a national best of 13.35 to reach the final at the World Under 20 Championships in Bydgoszcz last

year.

The youth team is made of 12-members, including nine boys and three girls who will contest the IAAF

World Youth Championships in Nairobi, Kenya scheduled for 12-16 July.

They will be spearheaded by Sokwakhana Zazini, who set a world Youth 400m Hurdles best of 48.84 also in

Tshwane in March, and Tharina van der Walt who launched a national youth best of 66.99m in the

Women's Hammer Throw in the same city last month.

"Congratulations to all athletes for being selected to represent your country at the highest level! We wish

both teams the best of luck. These may be small teams, but they are both strong, and we believe these

athletes will be able to carry the SA flag with pride," said ASA President, Aleck Skhosana.

* All mentioned records are still subject to standard ratification processes.
