
Caster Semenya decided to move up in distance, taking on the 1500m and 5000m at the 2019 Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships at the Germiston Athletics Stadium on Thursday 25 April.
– Semenya cruised to victory in heat one of the 1500m heats in a time of 4:30.65 to book her place in the finals on Friday 26 April at 19h45. She then went on to claim victory in the 5000m in 16:25.23.

Simon Magakwe (in the centre) became the 100m athlete with the most ever national short sprint titles in South African history. The 33 year-old successfully defended his title from 2018, adding to the titles he won consecutively from 2009 through to 2014. Despite suffering from cramps, the ‘Lion’ got off to a blistering start and came through to win in 10.05 seconds.
